52 Wednesdays :: The End

January 2, 2013

I’m Marla
Sprinkled throughout this journey are the little joys, moments of inspiration, and snippets of life that add color to our human experience. Join me as we embrace the beauty of imperfect perfection, the magic of a beautiful moment, and the endless possibilities of creativity.

52 Posts in one year and I did them all!  Yipee for finishing what I started!  <Insert confetti and party blowers>

I’ll tell you a couple of things I learned this year throughout it all:

1) preparing a blog post that is good takes at least an hour, sometimes much more.  The much more comes in if I don’t have photos prepared in advance.  On days where shooting happened the same night I was to have my post set, said post took upwards of three hours and often into the wee hours of the night.

2) committing to posting every week doesn’t sound like it would be very difficult, but it was friends, it was.  Though throughout this year I developed some pretty great imagery specifically to fit within a theme and I’m really proud of myself and what I created this year.

3) I have gotten to know some pretty incredible women when we ventured on this journey together.  I’ve gotten to see intimate snippets of life and real, lovely, heart-bending emotion through out it.  I’ve watched these women grow too in their own abilities and craft and it has inspired me each and every week.  So to those ladies who did this project with me, my congratulations and hugs to you.  Thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures with me; your honest words; and your comments of encouragement along the way.  You have been my favorite part.

So I thought since the theme is “The End,” I would post my favorite images throughout the year and end it with one new one that is very fitting.  Here goes:

Thank you so much for anyone who followed this project this year.  Happy New Year. xoxo

    you summarized my thoughts on this year in a way i never could. i always admire your honesty and thoughtfulness. and in looking through your selections from the year, i’m struck with how your images have a sense of fragility – that life is fragile and fleeting. that taking time to stop & soak it all in is important and meaningful. that’s what i see, feel and experience from your images – reverence, a quiet nobility & an honor for life. it’s been so meaningful to have been welcomed into the group a few months in so thank you; and here’s to another year of growth and making magic.

  2. Just gorgeous…every single one. You truly inspire me. Your work always has a sense of peace and beauty. It has been such a gift to join you on this journey. xoxo

    These are just so beautiful, Marla! I love your work. Our photographer that we started using before Daphne was born is no longer taking family photos, so we may need to use your services at some point. 🙂

    Marla, it’s been a joy following your blog this year (and even, when I’d remember it’s Wednesday and look for your post, I would be so excited)… thank you for sharing yourself, for stretching yourself, this year. I completely understand about how hard it is to post a good post on your blog each week. It takes deceptively more time than expected – at least for me, too. Way to stick with it! Your images in this “End” post are truly stunning. Like, as I’m scrolling through, they make me catch my breath in a little sigh. And ALL of them are works of art to be proud of… but I have to say, that black and white of Miss Eva beneath the dragonfly photo, that just melts me. Looking forward to what joys lie ahead for you in this next year, Marla! xoxoxox
