52 Wednesdays :: Summer

I’m Marla
Sprinkled throughout this journey are the little joys, moments of inspiration, and snippets of life that add color to our human experience. Join me as we embrace the beauty of imperfect perfection, the magic of a beautiful moment, and the endless possibilities of creativity.

It’s week 25 and by this time next week this 52 week project will be half completed.  I’ve had some setbacks as of the last two weeks which were impacting my ability to work with a clear mind, but I was able to put at least one photo together for this week’s “summer” themed post.

Summer is actually my favorite season.  In fact, the glorious summers in Oregon completely make up for the rest of the year’s gloominess (pretty sure anyway).  Someday I think I might like to be a snowbird and winter elsewhere…

This year on the first official day of summer, Miss Eva and I discovered a fantastic lake about a mile from our house.  It’s in a desirable neighborhood that was planned in the 50’s so all of the flora surrounding the lake is fully mature and looks very natural.  I assumed that we would stay for a half hour or so on our first visit, not realizing how amazing it was in advance, so we managed a 2 hour visit instead.  With all of the baby ducks, goslings, and dragonflies galore, Eva has asked that we make this a weekly ritual.  One thing we noticed was how many amazing varieties of dragonflies there were.  In fact, I never knew that the Pacific NW offered so many varieties and colors.  There was a particular all-red one that took a fancy to the little Miss and kept wanting to sit on her hand.  So of course everyone who saw called her the dragonfly-whisperer.  She said, “I think it understands how much I love animals and insects and just knows I’m safe.”  Perhaps. =)

Next in the circle is the lovely Laurie Schultz from Cincinnati, Ohio.  You can find her post about summer here:

    there’s so much to like…the light, the softness, your intentional focusing, the composition selected, and that all the colors came together with perfection – how divine to happen upon a dragon fly the compliment of your daughters dress! all/all it feels like a painting and in some ways reminds me of renoir.
