I think this will be my last post in 2012!  Our project is almost completed with one week to go, but that will technically be in 2013…. so here goes–last post. =)
This is the least photographically documented holiday season I’ve gone through in at least 5 years, but there was something very liberating about that.  As much as I love taking pictures, it was nice to just be a mom and do things without the big black thing attached to my face… without the distraction of angles, compositions, and ISO settings vs. digital noise.  It was lovely just to enjoy this last week or so with my daughter and not even think about those things.  I think there is usually a desire for me to take pictures throughout our everyday life and to document her childhood, but this season it was nice to step back from that a bit and just be us.  To just bake cookies, to just wrap presents, and just enjoy a Christmas dinner without the bulky camera.  I did snap a few details last week so I’ll include them here.  Because decorating for Christmas and playing a holiday tune on the piano, these things are festive to me.
I am looking forward to seeing all the festivities through my fellow photographer friends, be sure to join me starting with Ms. Laurie Schultz from Cincinnati, Ohio.  Her post can be found here:  http://www.laurieschultz.blogspot.com/2012/12/project-52-wk-51.html
For those of you who celebrate, I truly hope you had a lovely holiday.  xo
i think you have next year’s christmas cards figured out here! these are beautiful and universal in their sentiment. i like how you chose to photograph each and the pairing of color with b/w reaches to both sides of how the holiday feels. i’m also happy you chose to experience your holiday by living it. while not captured in pictures, i have a feeling those images will always be in your mind. happy new year!
Beautiful Marla. Such classic and elegant photos that capture the holiday perfectly.
These are amazing! The piano music is so simple and classic feeling. I just love your interpretation of festive! I was actually sad that you said this is your last post of the year! Thank goodness 2013 is right around the corner! 🙂
So pretty Marla. Silent Night is my all time favorite so I’m especially fond of the first. I have loved seeing your posts throughout the weeks and I’m looking forward to seeing more through the new year.
I love your beautiful, simple images Marla that sum up the holidays so well. Glad you put the camera down to enjoy the moment.
Looking forward to our new project in the new year!
Marla, I love the beautiful subtlety of the sheet music. And the details of the ornament with the xmas tree bokeh in the background is so rich and exquisite. Your line, “it was nice to just be a mom and do things without the big black thing attached to my face” made me smile. It does feel liberating to put the camera down and just be in the moment. And I am certain that our children appreciate having us there with them fully.
