Photographing Mahalia and her lovely parents was my first experience shooting an entire session on film alone. I did bring digital gear as backup, but aside from 3 shots in the beginning that I didn’t end up using, these pictures are a collection of the 4 rolls I used that morning to tell their new story. I really enjoyed how simplistic it all was, just capturing their newness together and how beautiful it all is. No props, no styling or posing–just this family, just as they are. Beautiful.
Images captured with Contax 645 and a collection of Kodak Portra 800, Tri-X, and Ilford HP5 films.

This made my morning. Perfect. I am so moved and impressed Marla…
Marla, these are lovely! I’ve toyed with the idea of film-only sessions if just for the simplicity. Chasing after three kids and homeschooling will do that to you! š
I look forward to seeing more!
Love and miss being involved with you each week,
